FAQ

How soon after my child turns 2.5 years old can they start at Dicker House?

Generally it would be at the closest half term or at the start of term but we can be flexible on this if we have spaces.

Do you accept childcare vouchers?

Yes, we also accept the new government scheme for "tax free childcare"

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, cheque, BACS payment or childcare vouchers schemes.

How do you invoice?

Half termly in advance – a half term is usually six or seven weeks.

Are there any additional costs?

We ask our parents for a donation every half term towards fruit and cookery activities so that we can provide a healthy selection of snack food every session.

Does my child have to wear uniform?

No, purchase of the dicker house clothing is voluntary.

Is there a breakfast/lunch/after-school club?

We are open for six hours a day, so a lunch club is included in the daily routine for children who stay beyond 12PM. A lunch club can be added as an additional cost or as part of your entitlement if you so wish. We do not currently offer a breakfast club or after-school club for our children.

Do you accept the 30 hours free government childcare?

Yes, we try to ensure that all eligible children can access their 15 hours of Free entitlement and subject to availability we do offer the extended 15 hours of childcare as well.

Do you accept children with SENCO needs?

Yes, we are an inclusion setting. Please see our Local Offer statement for further details.

Is Dicker House open on Birchwood Grove School's inset days?

No, we are not allowed children on the setting during school inset days. These days will generally be made up during the school year.

Will my child automatically get a place at Birchwood Grove if they go to Dicker House?

No we are an independent, charity committee run preschool and so parents will need to apply for entry into Birchwood Grove through the usual ways

What happens if I am late picking my child up?

We would appreciate a telephone call in these circumstances, so that staff are made away of any problems. For persistent late collection a fee may be charged as staff would need to remain on the premises to take care of your child.

What is adult to child ratio?

1:4 for under twos, and 1:8 for three and above. However the preschool normally try to have an over ratio compliment of staff.
